Samsung F480

The new Samsung F480 is very similar to the Samsung-Armani, but the new one is of full-on Samsung branding. It is a touch operated compact handset with video and music player, a 5-megapixel camera and 228MB of internal memory, which can be expanded with microSD cards.


As always in Samsung the new mobile comes with some very well-known features, such as widgets, fast web browser and FM radio. Probably among the most eye-catching features are the small size – just 95.9 x 55 x 11.5 mm and of course the large 2,8-inch touchscreen colour display of QVGA resolution. When the Samsung F480 was first announced the company said it would be available in to different versions, but now it turns out that the two looks will come in one package and users will be able to switch between them, which is a better deal for the consumers in my opinion.

As you can see in the photo above the front panel of Samsung F480 is dominated by the 2,8’’ screen, which is capable of showing up to 262K colours. Underneath the screen are three keys whose functions vary depending on the menu you are currently in. Samsung F480 has very nicely saturated colours and great contrast, so it can be said that this is one of the best Samsung displays in the current mobile phone line.


When it comes to the sound quality, it is very good for both speaking and listening to music (and a lot better than in Sony Ericsson G900). The FM radio is really simple to operate and also of good quality. The Samsung F480’s radio has a nice new feature of music recognition which works very smoothly. However, the video player is not the best one. I mean there are all the necessary features like playing in the full screen, rewinding, but it has limited compatibility, so you might get some errors when trying to play videos taken with another camera.

At the back of Samsung F480 is a Camera lens and a LED flash. The camera is quite capable and with the maximum resolution of 2560 z 1920 pixels it takes really great photos. The camera has some fun features as wide dynamic range, face detection and anti shake. In the pre-release version there are still some issues with white balance, but since it is rather easy to eliminate it will for sure be done before Samsung F480 reaches shops. Although when you take photos in the largest resolution it might take up to 5 seconds to save the picture, the camera in Samsung F480 is still one of the best in handsets. When you add to it well designed menus and great functionality this mobile phone is really worth considering, even though it is to be released in the half of May.
