Samsung i550 and i550w

Samsung announced i550 quite a long time ago, but the mobile phone is has not yet been released. As the date of its premiere is approaching I decided to write a few words about it. Since the first announcement Samsung decided to release i550 in two different versions which in fact

differ only in one respect. Samsung i550w will be more desirable to some as it will have Wi-Fi, while Samsung i550 will not. Both phones will have a large 2.6-inch colour TFT display, trackball navigation, Symbian OS, 3-megapixel digital camera, FM radio and what is unusual in such small devices, but more than welcome – built in GPS receiver. Moreover, as Samsung claims both i550 and i550w ought to have a large – 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery with quite satisfactory lifetime. With all those functions and small dimensions: 115 x 53 x 13,8 mm Samsung i550 will be very pocket friendly and user friendly as well.

Because Samsung i550 runs Symbian the amount of contacts in you phonebook is limited only by the memory on your microSD card. Also thanks to Symbian, Samsung i550 has a very good call log for the last 30 days. As you can see in the pictures Samsung i550 will be available in two

versions: silver and black. The mobile phones have nice ergonomics, microSD card slot on the left side and a 3-megapixel camera at the back. The digital camera itself is quite nice, but the LED flash does not, unfortunately, allow taking good photos in low light. Just below the 2.6’’ display is the trackball navigator. It is the first try of Samsung with this kind of navigation and it is not the best one. Scrolling through long documents, picture galleries, or menus takes too much time because of small sensitivity of the trackball. As I said before the Samsung i550 is a small phone, so the keypad also has to be small. Indeed it is, yet it is surprisingly easy to use and comfortable. There is only one problem – the dedicated keys near the trackball are not quite as comfortable as the rest of the keypad.

As always Samsung mobile phones ensure great sound clarity. Both when you use it for making call and when you use it as a music player. Unfortunately the music player lacks any pre-set equalizer options, or any possibility of manual corrections. Despite that the sound quality is really remarkable and probably better than in some dedicated portable music players. When you add to it the list of file types supported by Samsung i550 it turns out that it is a really versatile mobile phone.
Samsung i550 has 5 different profiles and an offline mode which turns off all the transceivers and is the default mode when you start the handset without a SIM card. Of course all the profiles can be edited. Last, but not least the GPS function. Thanks to the large display all the necessary information is clearly seen, but the GPS itself is not the most sensitive, so it sometimes takes some time to find the desired route.
To sum up, Samsung i550 and i550w will for sure be successful phones as their price is competitive, the available options are abundant and the design and size are also the good points of those mobile phones. A short list of Samsung i550 specification:
