Samsung i900 Omnia is a high-tech versatile device capable of much more than only making phone calls.

Intro:
Samsung i900 Omnia features 8, or 16 GB of internal memory and microSD slot, GPS receiver with A-GPS, TV-out. It works on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, but many of its features have been tuned by Samsung to work smoothly on this headset, like great touch navigation and excellent media player and loudspeaker. Samsung i900 Omnia has also great battery life, fast response thanks to its 624 Mhz CPU. The large 3.2 inch touchscreen with 65K-color allows you to navigate the phone easily and play the multimedia in landscape mode which makes it really user-friendly. Samsung i900 gives you also Dvix support without any additional drivers or decoders.

The design:
Samsung i900 Omnia measures 112 x 56.9 x 12.5 mm and weights 127 grams, but considering what’s packed in it it is quite reasonable. The front of Samsung i900 Omnia is dominated by the 3.2” touchscreen below which you will find Call and End keys and optical joystick between them. On the right side of the handset is a comfy volume rocker and dedicated camera key. On the bottom you will find only power key and reset hole, whereas the bottom of Samsung i900 there is just the mouthpiece. The back of the phone features the 5 megapixel camera lens and LED flash which can also work as a torch. One of the most annoying design flows in Samsung i900 Omnia is the microSD card slot placement. It order to insert a card you will have to remove the 1440- mAh Li-ion battery cause the slot is underneath it.

Performance:
Samsung i900 Omnia is so versatile that making phone calls is probably among the features that you will use the least frequently. But when you decide to make a phone call you need not worry about the voice reception as it’s excellent on both sides. As Samsung i900 Omnia runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional you more or less know what to expect.

But Samsung has added a few interesting things, such as three different home screens. The first one is for widgets such as analog clock, world-time clock, photo browser and a few more to choose from. The second Home screen has a few tabs and shows shortcuts to SMS, Email inbox and Call log. The second tab shows favorite contacts, whereas the third shows frequently used settings. And finally, the third available Home screen is a mix between the tabbed Home screen and the Main menu. Well, it’s not tabbed but looks a lot like the tabbed variety. But instead of shortcuts to some settings, it offers an application launcher similar to the Main menu.
What impressed me immensely is the Samsung i900’s 5 megapixel camera. I know that such cameras are also available in other phones, but the array of settings, modes and overall quality of pictures taken with Samsung i900 is truly amazing. The maximum resolution is 2592 x 1944 pixels and with several shooting modes, shoot scenes, and ability to control auto focus, white balance color effect and ISO you will not want to use your digital camera and you’ll switch to Samsung i900. When you add to it that Samsung i900 has also self-timer, face detection and thanks to the built-in GPS receiver also geotagging there is really not much more that could be added.
Samsung i900 does a very good job when it comes to browsing and displaying websites. It uses touch optimized Opera 9.5 browser. When you open a new page, it automatically gets displayed fullscreen showing the whole page content. Text is hardly readable this way, but it’s much easier to navigate to the bits you are interested in. A double tap on any element zooms on it until it fits the display. Unfortunately, Samsung i900 does not support flash so it won’t play YouTube videos. At least not the videos that you can watch on your desktop, but when you use the mobile version YouTube which streams 3gp videos you should have no difficulties.

Menus / ease of use:
As Samsung i900 uses Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional its phonebook is practically unlimited, as are the entries for individual contacts. Thanks to functions such as ‘search’ it is easy to keep track of all your files and organize them in a way you like. What should come as no surprise is the fact that Samsung i900 supports Microsoft documents and pdf files.
Thanks to the fast CPU Samsung i900 works seamlessly and as the manufacturer decided to add a few themes to the Windows Mobile it looks pretty neat. So, all in all, Samsung i900 Omnia is a really impressive cell phone for those who treasure versatility and long battery lifetime.
