Nokia 6210 Navigator
Nokia 6210 Navigator is a versatile cell phone with GPS navigation excellent for car and pedestrian use.
Intro:
Nokia 6210 Navigator is a successor of another great device – Nokia 6110 Navigator and as such it has all the advantages of the older model with a few new and updated features. For example, the new Nokia 6210 Navigator runs on Symbian OS 9.3, has 3 megapixel camera and fast, 369 MHz processor.
Nokia 6210 Navigator pros:
+ 64 MB SDRAM, 369 MHz processor, 120 MB of internal memory
+ 3 MP autofocus camera with LED flash
+ 2.4 inch 16M-color QVGA display
+ Accelerometer for screen auto rotation
+ Fast and responsive interface
+ MicroSD card slot, 1 GB card included in the box
+ Bluetooth v2.0
+ Digital compass
Nokia 6210 Navigator cons:
- No geo-tagging for camera photos
- No lens cover for the camera
- No Wi-Fi
- Display slightly too small for comfortable in-car navigation
The design:
Nokia 6210 Navigator measures 103mm x 49mm x 14.9mm and weights 117 g. It is made of high quality materials, although the front of the smartphone looks a bit cheap. The front of the phone is dominated by the 2.4” display and the D-pad. Sliding reveals the keypad, but unfortunately first row of keys is a bit too hard to press. Apart from that the keyboard is comfortable to use. On the left of Nokia 6210 Navigator are the memory slot and the microUSB port. On the right is the volume rocker, as well as the dedicated camera key. On the top of the phone is a charger connector and 2.5mm audio jack. The bottom features the neck/wrist strap eyelet, the mouthpiece and the battery cover latch. The back is made of fingerprint-proof matt plastic and features the camera lens, LED flash and loudspeaker grill.
Performance:
Nokia has such a long tradition of making phones that there can be no doubt that the reception is clear on both ends and does n ot cause any troubles. Nokia 6210 Navigator as the name suggests was made to be used as a navigation device and this is what I will focus on. The cell phone is equipped with Nokia Maps 2.0 which has rather average interface but works really well. You can download the maps as you go or load the maps from your PC. Unfortunately the turn-by-turn navigation and voice guidance come at a monthly license, but you get 6 months free when you buy the phone. The phone gives you traffic information, trip distance and duration, route planning and re-routing so you have all options covered. If you are not moving in a car you might use the built-in compass. But for car use the display is a bit too small and might not be comfortable. But all in all, the GPS performance is commendable, and you can speed it up a bit by using A-GPS, but it may need to download some info from the net.
Apart from the navigation the Nokia 6210 Navigator has a good music player which supports plenty of formats: MP3, AAC, eAAc+, WMA and M3U. Music can be browsed by artist, genre, album or composer. There are five equalizer presets which can be modified and of course the music player can work in background. The video player works in landscape and portrait modes fullscreen.
Yet another useful Nokia 6210 Navigator feature is the 3 megapixel camera. The maximum image resolution is 2048 x 1536 and as the camera has 5 scene presets, autofocus, flash control, color effects and plenty of other customizable options the photos come out really good. In fact the picture quality is comparable with Nokia N78. The video is recorded in VGA resolution at 15 fps in MPEG-4.
The battery performance of Nokia 6210 Navigator is quite good and with the GPS on it might work for as long as 4 hours, which is quite as much as Samsung i900 Omnia.
Menus / ease of use:
Nokia 6210 Navigator uses Symbian OS 9.3, thus it is very functional and easy to use. The phone comes with four different themes but you can always download some more from the Internet. The phonebook is limited practically only by the available memory so you can have as many contacts as you want. Additionally, there are multiple fields for each contact and you can add a photo or a ringtone or a video. The call log holds up to 20 call records in the following tabs: outgoing, missed calls, received. Messaging is very easy and you have a character counter as well as message counter.
