HP EliteBook 6930p as the very name suggests is a laptop aimed at businessmen.
Intro:
HP EliteBook 6930p has all the features essential for a business device: serious looks, compact size, good performance, versatile connectivity and additional features for bigger safety. If fact the HP 6930p is one of the best performers in its class, and with its plenty of other features it is most certain it will be very popular.
HP 6930p pros:
+ Good performance
+ Vivid, clear 14.1-inch screen
+ Comfortable and quiet keyboard
+ Plenty of additional security features
+ Built-in business card reader
+ 2 megapixel built-in webcam
+ Good graphics
HP 6930p cons:
- Average (considering the class of the device) battery life
- Average wireless performance
- Touchpad buttons are not enough tactile
The design:
HP 6930p measures 13.0 x 9.6 x 1.2 inches and weights 5.2 pounds. It is made of very high quality materials and both looks and feels really solid. Thanks to the anodized aluminium lid and magnesium alloy chassis it is very elegant. The keyboard is comfortable, responsive and it is not too loud. Also the touchpad is large enough for comfortable use, however, the buttons aren’t tactile enough so sometimes you have to push them harder. At the top of the screen there are the microphone and the webcam. Above the keyboard are the touch-sensitive controls: volume, mute, Presentation Options, Wi-Fi, Connection Manager, Security manager.
Performance:
The 14.1” display working in up to 1280 x 800 resolution is bright, with good colors and quite wide viewing angle. The speakers are loud and clear so the HP 6930p is perfect not only for business purposes, but also for watching movies. The built-in 2 megapixel webcam’s performance is satisfactory. The skin tones look good, and so do the colos and brightness, however, the webcam does not reproduce fine detail too well. For sure the webcam is enough for an online conference or a chat with friends.
With the 2.4-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 CPU, 2GB of RAM and ATI Mobility Radeon HD3450 graphics the HP 6930p performs really well in all sorts of tasks. It scores 4,597 points on 3DMark03 which is above the average for business devices, so this laptop is good enough to play some games.
The HP 6930p comes with a6 -cell (55 WHr) Lithium-Ion battery that suffices for browsing the Internet for about three and a half hours wirelessly which is not bad, yet, other laptops aimed at businessmen tend to have more powerful batteries. Fortunately, for additional $139 you can buy a lot more powerful one that should last twice as long.
Connectivity / safety:
HP 6930p has all the ports for comfortable use. It comes with three USB 2.0 ports, an SD/MMC memory card reader, ExpressCard/54 card slot, VGA, Ethernet and modem jacks, as well as FireWire.
HP 6930p comes with a bunch of additional safety precautions such as fingerprint reader, QuickLook 2, 3D accelerometer and HP SpareKey. I think I don’t have to tell you what the fingerprint reader does so I will go on to the QuickLook 2. This feature lets you browse your tasks, calendar and e-mail before the system boots. The 3D accelerometer detects any sudden movements and shifts the hard drive into safer position in case your laptop was to fall. The HP SpareKey lets you define a key configuration as an alternative to a password for logging in.
