LG Dare
The new LG Dare is a multimedia handset for demanding users, featuring GPS receiver, 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, and 3-inch touchscreen.
Introduction:
LG Dare is a relatively small multimedia cell phone with plenty of feature which should satisfy even the most demanding users. The LG Dare features good music player, nice camera and good GPS receiver. Additionally, the phone has nice interface and speaker-independent voice dialling which can be also used for managing music files.
LG Dare pros:
+ Friendly interface,
+ Incredible music experience,
+ Good camera,
+Good battery life
+ Good connectivity
+ Built-in GPS receiver
+ Built-in accelerometer - automatic screen rotation (although a bit limited)
LG Dare cons:
- Annoying screen lock,
- Useless handwriting recognition
The design:
LG Dare measures 104.1mm x 55.8mm x 12.7mm (4.1″ x 2.2″ x .5″) weighs 107.7 grams (3.8oz). The front of the handset houses the 3-inch touchscreen with 240×400 resolution and only three hard buttons. At the top you will find the standard 3.5mm audio port. On the lefts side is the screen lock key and below it the microSD card slot, an audio button and the micro-USB port. The right side of the LG Dare houses the volume rocker, and the dedicated camera key. At the back of the handset is the camera lens, the LED flash and the loudspeaker grill. Generally, the new LG Dare feels very good and solid and is comfortable to use.
Performance:
There are no problems with reception or the voice volume in LG Dare. Thanks to the dedicated camera key making photos is a pleasure with the LG Dare. If you press the button for a longer time instead of the camera you instantly get the video camera. As the entire 3-inch screen works as a viewfinder it is easy to point and shoot. The camera has autofocus and the LED flash for worse lighting conditions. Additionally, you can choose from a few modes, effects and you can also adjust ISO, or saturation.
Also messaging is a pleasure with LG Dare. You can choose from three different text input types. You can write in the portrait mode with the numeric keypad, in the landscape mode with the full QWERTY keyboard, or you can make use of the handwriting recognition, although this particular feature is not really good here.
The music player is also very good. You can browse your music library by the artist, album or genre. There are several ‘sound effects’ otherwise known as equalizer. The sound quality is good and the loudspeaker is indeed loud.
Although the LG Dare is not a business device it also has such applications as calendar, alarm clock, drawing pad and a stopwatch. There is no document viewer and surprisingly there are no games pre-installed.
The battery life of LG Dare is very good and should suffice for a few days of moderate use.
Menus / ease of use:
The main menu consists of nine icons and although you cannot switch any of them off you can change their location to suit your needs. You can also change the wallpaper of the standby screen, but it won’t show in any other screen. At the bottom of the screen are some icons to which you can ascribe desired functions so the customization of the phone is quite good. All in all, the LG Dare is pleasant to work with and the menu structure is not complicated so you can grasp it almost immediately.
